for Seimone Augustus, the 2006 WNBA Rookie of the Year and #1 Draft
Pick of the Minnesota Lynx and two-time winner of the AP Player of the Year, Wade Trophy, Naismith, and Wooden Awards. Seimone, who is best known for her leadership and creativity on the court as the star forward of Louisiana State University's women's basketball team from 2002-2006, elevated the sport within her hometown of Baton Rouge. Catch her when the WNBA season kicks off on May 19, 2007.
Dynamo pulls off win in Week 14: 72-65 | Feb 14, 2007 1:32am
Thanks to pd_swanson, who's keeping everyone informed about the stats from Russia. The Dynamo had a 72-65 win this week, led by Rebekkah Brunson, who had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Seimone added 8 points in the matchup against Vologda-Chevakata.
In other news, Seimone's former team mates at LSU (22-4, 8-2 SEC) have managed to have a more effective offensive presence than many expected after SA's departure. With the help of center Sylvia "double-double" Fowles, the Lady Tigers have been battling hard in the SEC, including an impressive effort against UCONN over the weekend. In the end, the Lady Tigers were edged out 72-71, ending their winning streak at home in the PMAC. Sylvia Fowles finished the game with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
News from Moscow, All-Star Game Comes to DC | Feb 04, 2007 7:59pm
Seimone has been averaging 14.4 points a game after joining Moscow's Dynamo team during the WNBA off-season, including 8 points in their recent game versus Tarbes GB in the Eighth-Finals of the Eurocup, according to Fiba Europe. Dynamo is scheduled to play Tarbes again on February 8th.
The new head coach of the Lynx, Don Zierden, was scheduled to visit Seimone, Svetlana, Nuria Martinez, and other players overseas last month to discuss plans for the upcoming season.
There isn't much other news to report (as most of it's in Russian!), other than it's good to have the site back and up and running again, after an unusually long hiatus. And for those of you within driving/flying/hitchhiking distance to Washington, DC, we're excited to report that the All-Star Game will be held at the Verizon Center on July 15, 2007 at 3:30pm.

East Wins All-Star Game; Seimone Leads West with 16 Points | Jul 13, 2006 12:57pm
The East pretty much clobbered the West in the All-Star Game (98-82) last night. Throughout the first half, the score was even most of the time, with the West leading at the beginning, but Katie Smith, Katie Douglas, and Lindsay Whalen were more accurate with their shooting than their counterparts on the West. Seimone led the Western conference team with 16 points in 21 minutes played, including two 3-pointers.
Cappie Pondexter's no-look pass to Seimone in the second quarter is the Play of the Day (under Highlights, click on 'Cappie's Pass' to open the video clip).
New photo galleries have been added for the All-Star Skills Challenge and the WNBA Fashion Portraits.
It was also announced today that the ESPY Award for Best Female College Athlete went to Cat Osterman, a softball pitcher from the University of Texas. Sheryl Swoopes won the award for Best WNBA Player. Congrats, Sheryl... maybe this is Seimone's category for next year? (hint, hint)
Seimone Wins All-Star Skills Challenge! | Jul 11, 2006 11:29am
Seimone competed today in the "Dribble, Dish, and Swish" Challenge, the first of several All-Star events to take place in Madison Square Garden this week. Seimone, who has earned a spot on the reserves list for the Western Conference All-Star Team, was matched against Deanna Nolan, Cappie Pondexter, and Sue Bird, who won the title in 2005. Sue and Seimone advanced to the final round in the timed "obstacle course" that consisted of dribbling, passing and shooting stations, with Seimone posting the winning time of 28.5 seconds.
For winning, Seimone received a $5,000 check toward the WNBA Cares Community Fund. To view the entire Skills Challenge on NBA Broadband, click this link, or go to www.wnba.com/index_allstar.html and click on Skills Challenge.
An article in USA details the impact this year's rookies are having on the game.

Something has gotten into the Minnesota Lynx. Last week, they were tame, if anything, and this week, they're downright ferocious. Seimone's pep talk to the team (and SMS's post-game speech after the Mystics game) must have worked wonders, because the Lynx are on a roll, beating the Indiana Fever 92-87. Seimone picked up 31 points in 13-24 shooting, and contributed 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 block. Good news too that the turnovers were down for the Lynx, at 13, when the Fever had 17.
With 23.2 PPG, Seimone is on her way up the WNBA scoring ranking (she was at #3 last week). I remember seeing a post on the ESPN.com message board where somebody predicted she would finish out the season with 10-12 PPG and I just laughed. I think she'll average at least what she did her final season at LSU (22.7), and maybe more. For a player who doesn't make it a goal of breaking records, she certainly obliterates a lot of them.
Lynx set new scoring record - 114-71 against LA's Sparks | Jun 01, 2006 12:49pm
Seimone Augustus scored a season-high 26 points in helping the Lynx to a league record 114 points and a blowout victory over the Los Angeles Sparks. Svetlana Abrosimova chipped in 21 for the Lynx and was joined in double figures by Kristin Mann, 18, Adrian Williams, 13, Amber Jacobs 11, and Nicole Ohlde, 10. These totals marked season highs for each player, and Mann's 18 was the highest output of her two-year career. Tamika Williams posted a game-high ten rebounds, and Shona Thorburn, a game-high seven assists. Lisa Leslie, the league leader in points and rebounds entering the game, was held to just eight points and four rebounds. The Lynx blew the game wide open in the third quarter when they outscored the Sparks 33-14. Augustus had 12 in the quarter.
